Job description APS Metal Industries [apsmetalindustries.com] was established in 1986 and currently operates out of a 40,000 square foot facility in Pickering, Ontario. With approximately 70 employees we operate two shifts daily, which enables us the flexibility to meet customer requirements for quick delivery. We provide free parking onsite and are located 5 minutes from Pickering GO Station. Our production capabilities include complete metal fabrication from raw material to finished parts including precise and versatile laser cutting utilizing our Trumpf 4000 and 5000 watt lasers. Equipped with the latest technology, numerous welding stations, a complete machine shop, nine brake presses, hardware inserters, shearing and notching capabilities, single punch presses, and a well equipped clean-up area complete with deburring machinery, we provide a competitive edge in producing parts that meet customer specifications and time constraints. Metal Polishing Specialist Reporting to: Shop Supervisor/Foreman Position Objective: Assist Shop Foreman and team with specialty metal polishing and finishing Skill Requirements: Manually deburr parts with various equipment and tools Maintain counting and organization of customer parts during handling Complete tasks on specialized parts in small to moderate volumes Operate specialized hand tools such as dynafiles, pencil grinder, stroke sander for #4 finish, etc Impart and restore mirror finish polishing on complex components Timesaver metal sanding and deburring ======================================================= 2. “General Machinist” Responsibilities - Review samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of output - Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping - Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job - Select appropriate machines (e.g. lathes, drills, mills, surface grind) and position or load material for a job - Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issues - Determine and program size of batches and speed of machine - Monitor output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects - Perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damages Qualifications for Machinist - Vocational school or apprenticeship preferred - Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail - Great verbal and written communication skills - Experience in using and/or programming manual or semi-automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders, mills, drills etc.) - Ability to use precision tools (e.g. calipers) to take accurate measurements - Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals - Knowledge of metal properties - Outstanding mathematical skills and analytical abilities - Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items
