CICS is a not-for-profit organization that has been providing comprehensive and quality services to the immigrant community for 51 years across the GTA and York Region. The Immigrant Youth Centre provides settlement services and programs for newcomers ages 13-24 years old.
Currently, we are working on a research project called the Markham-Milliken Development Study to learn more about the needs of the Milliken and Aaniin neighbourhoods. The first year of this project focuses on gathering information to gain a better understanding of how youth feel about the services available in this community and how we can better address any gaps. The second year will focus on learning about the perspectives of organizations and staff who work with youth.
For youth who are interested in participating, they have the following options:
Online survey
One on one in-person interview
Participating in a focus group of approximately 10 youth
Please find attached the flyer for distribution with more information about participation. Participants in the survey will be entered into a draw to win one of four $25.00 Cineplex gift cards and other prizes. Youth who participate in the one-on-one in-person interviews and focus groups will each receive a $15.00 Tim Hortons gift card.
The identity and confidentiality of all participants will be protected during the research, reporting and publication process. No information will be shared without the consent of the youth or their parent/guardian.
